British-born Ruth Brown picked up her first camera at the age of eleven. Born out of this longstanding passion for photography, Fluidphoto showcases some of her professional work undertaken from her base on New Zealand’s beautiful South Island.
Ruth’s academic background and natural flair (a BA honours degree in Fine Art, followed by an MA in Digital Art and a teaching diploma) made her a passionate, self-motivated teacher of digital arts, photography and IT for over a decade.
Her empathetic approach to her art allows her to work with and enjoy both traditional and new technologies, exploring the complexities of both to suit the demands of each project or creative whim.
People and landscapes feature strongly in her photographic work. Living in Wanaka presents a perfect opportunity to combine these in her professional work at weddings, family functions and special events. Landscape continually motivates and inspires her, capturing the ever-changing climate over the land. Her portraiture captures her subject’s personality with a spontaneity only possible through her relaxed and unobtrusive manner.

Fortunate to have visited many countries, travel features in Ruth’s portfolio. From mountain to sea, desert to forest, thriving city to sleepy village, she has experienced and documented these cultures and places through image. Furthermore, abstract themes are commonly found in her work. Largely influenced by nature, she pursues patterns and textures with an obsession for capturing the sensory quality of light.
