Summer snow at Lake Wanaka
Who would have thought we would wake up to snow-capped mountains this summer morning at Lake Wanaka?
Not that we need reminding what a wonderful, beautiful place it is to live!
No wonder it has been nominated one of the top ten destinations on the planet to visit this 2012 according to Lonely Planet (read more about this here).
Buster Diggings, Central Otago
A couple of weeks ago I ventured up to the Buster Diggings in the Maniototo, Central Otago, as a day trip from Naseby.
One of the highest sluicing goldfields in Otago, this landscape is unusual and striking in that the diggings are stunning white quartz sand.
On a hot and muggy day with a nor’wester approaching the landscape was amazing with rapidly changing light.
Here’s a selection of my favourite images from the day…
New Zealand falcon
On my return to Wanaka from a trip to the West Coast of the South Island, I spotted a native New Zealand falcon – karearea.
These falcons are hard to encounter and I have never been this close to one. What a lucky opportunity to watch it rest for a brief period of time.
